Whetstone | Town of Crested Butte
Background
Located just 3 miles south of Crested Butte, the Whetstone Community Housing Project will add over 250 affordable townhomes and apartments to the area. The project is intended to be a diverse mix of community housing and a vibrant neighborhood with access to parks, public lands, and public transportation.
The project is owned by Gunnison County, which will rent the homes to local workers once they are constructed. Multiple companies presented to the public in 2023, and Servitas Development was selected to build the neighborhood.
The Valley Housing Fund (VHF) actively supports this project, including advocating for utility extensions from Crested Butte, providing input on developer selection, and providing grant funding from its Partner Support Program. For updates, visit the Whetstone Community Housing website.
