With new foundations laid and fresh designs in hand, construction is officially underway on Phase 2 of the Homestead Community Housing Project in Mt. Crested Butte. This week, we’re proud to announce a $100,000 Partner Support Grant to help accelerate this project’s completion.

While progress on this development hasn’t been without challenges, the focus remains on creating high-quality, deed-restricted homes for local individuals and families. Phase 2 includes 22 deed-restricted homes, each with two or three bedrooms, attached garages, and plenty of space for local individuals and families to settle into a stable housing future at the foot of Mt.CB.

It’s energizing to offer support to this project just as we’re seeing it take shape — and it’s helping to fill a clear need in the Valley, as the interest level exceeded the unit count. I imagine Homestead will soon be a tight-knit community of neighbors that own a quality home, and, most importantly, have finally found stability.

Halley Anderson, VHF Board Member

The Town of Mt. Crested Butte applied to VHF’s Partner Support Program in December 2024, and a VHF committee reviewed the application based on criteria including alignment with regional housing needs, commitment to sustainability and accessibility, and likelihood of success, among other factors.

A large check was presented at the Mt. Crested Butte Town Council meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 18.

Affordable housing projects often face challenges like design alternations, delays, and shifting timelines—these are common hurdles when addressing complex community needs like housing. That’s where organizations like VHF come in. By providing timely support, we help projects like Homestead navigate funding hurdles and keep moving forward.

We’re proud to support the Homestead Community Housing neighborhood and look forward to families moving in later this year!
